Catechesis

There is also a module on catechesis that underpins all the modules.  The course starts and finishes with catechesis and catechesis classes happen during each module.

What is catechesis?
Catechesis is the totality of the Church’s efforts to make disciples, to help people believe that Jesus is the Son of God so that believing they may have life in his name.  (CCC 4)

The CCC 426 points out:
  1. Jesus Christ is at the heart of catechesis
  2. As catechists we are called to reveal the person of Jesus, the Christ.
  3. We do this by helping people to understand the meaning of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and glorification.

General Directory for Catechesis tells us:
  • It is helping people to grow in faith.
  • It is building the Kingdom here on earth.
  • It is helping people recognise and understand God’s revelation in the Judeo-Christian tradition
  • It is about using peoples’ experiences to bring them closer to Jesus.
  • It is making Jesus known and loved.

The role of the catechist?
To put all of the above into practice in the parish under the guidance of the parish priest.
