Jesus the Teacher

Journey of the Icon of Jesus Our Teacher around the Archdiocese
2018 marks the centenary of the 1918 Education Scotland Act, which saw Catholic schools transfer from Diocesan control to State governance. During 2018 we rejoice in the academic, cultural, civic and social achievements of pupils who have attended Catholic schools in the last one hundred years.  It is a chance to mark publicly the ways in which Catholic schools are not just good for Catholics, but good for Scotland. To celebrate this centenary, the Scottish Catholic Education Service have commissioned Scottish artist, Bernadette Reilly, to write an Icon of Jesus Our Teacher. Over the course of this year, the icon will make a pilgrimage around Scotland, visiting every Diocese and reminding us the He is at the heart of what makes our schools distinctive.

The Archdiocese of Glasgow will host the icon of Jesus Our Teacher from 11th September until the 10th of October 2018. During that time, the Icon will be in St Andrew’s Cathedral throughout the week and will go out to selected parishes, in the ‘four corners’ of the Archdiocese, over each of the four weekends. Use the links below to access more information on the events in your area.
