Parish Catechesis
Catechesis
Catechesis is a responsibility of the entire Christian community. This is should not be the work of catechists and priests alone, but of the whole community of the faithful. The Christian community follows the development of catechetical processes, for children, young people and adults, as a duty that involves and binds it directly. (GDC 220)
A fully Christian community can exist only when a systematic catechesis of all its members takes place and when an effective and well developed catechesis of adults is regarded as the central task of the catechetical enterprise.” (ACCC, no. 25).

Award in Catholic Theological Education
The Archdiocese offers a two year programme in partnership with the University of Glasgow School of Education directed towards the formation of Catechists to work in parishes, principally with adult Catholics, but also in RCIA, with children or with young people - in short, wherever a parish recognises its responsibility to support life-long faith formation of its community. Hand in Hand
"Hand In Hand" is a new resource developed by the Archdiocese for supporting parents and families on their journey in faith. Tailored particularly for use with groups of parents whose children are preparing to celebrate Sacraments in the Church, it helps parents engage in their children's formation by offering reflection at their own level, and insight into connecting faith and sacraments with the ups and downs of ordinary family life. A Resource book guides the sessions with parents and additional support material offers parents suggestions for "taking it home". Contact the R.E. Department for more information.
Becoming a catholic - RCIA
It is possible to become Catholic at any age. Many people come to faith as they journey through life, and perhaps only after many years do they take the step of joining the Church. The process whereby someone joins the Church in adulthood is called the "Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults" - often abbreviated to "R.C.I.A." This process involves learning about aspects of Church faith, discovering the riches of Scripture - especially the Gospels - entering into Catholic practices of prayer and worship, and participation in special rites and blessings to accompany that process. It usually reaches its climax at Easter each year.
