Sacraments - First Reconciliation, First Eucharist
Lesson notes and suggestions for classroom use during Sacramental preparation times are available from the R.E. Department. These ensure close adherence to the Core Learning outlined in "This Is Our Faith" for the respective year-stage, delivering the relevant aspects of Experiences and outcomes for each Level.
As well as the sacramental preparation which children receive within their Religious Education lessons in school, drawing on "This Is Our Faith" via this material written in the RE Department, we also produce materials to be used at home and in the parish to supplement these. These take-home books - one for each of the Sacraments the children will celebrate - include activities based on the school lessons, notes to help parents follow what their children are learning, and opportunities for child and parent to pray together.

The Sacrament of Baptism
We have developed a workbook for parents and children to use when young children are going to be baptised. This Family Workbook is suitable for use with children of approximately 5-8 years of age and explores what happens at Baptism and explains the signs and symbols of the Sacrament in an age-appropriate way.
The workbook is designed for parents and children to use together, either at home or as part of a parish group. Children of seven and over could use the book, with their parents, as part of the RCIC process. It offers parents the opportunity to be fully involved in their children’s preparation to receive the Sacrament. It contains five sessions, one of which is to be completed after Baptism. Parishes may order copies of this book by phoning the RE Department on 0141 226 5898. Alternatively you can e-mail an order to [email protected]

Parish-based Sacramental Catechesis
Whilst the sacramental workbooks would be sent home by the school for use by the parents and children, the parish materials would be used by trained parish catechists in a parish setting. All of these materials link with and relate to the school preparation and catechesis but are intended to help foster in the children a sense of belonging to the parish community, and a sense of the life-long journey that faith and the sacraments entail.
If you are interested in training to become a catechist to work with children in the parish context at times of sacramental preparation you should initially speak to your Parish Priest. Training is offered for those wishing to become involved in this.
